Super Psycho MySpace Muzic Review

“Super Psycho MySpace Muzic” Is the debut album from Liam De Melo, more commonly known as Literal Colby. The album comes from various inspirations such as pop artists Slayyyter, Ayesha Erotica, and even resemblances from experimental hyperpop artist Sophie. Liam combines these influences alongside influences of emo music and culture to create what is in my opinion, his best project. Despite Colby’s small fanbase and following, SPMM is a great pop album that fits in seamlessly with some of the best known and favorite albums of the genre.

Similarly to that of Ayesha Erotica’s “Big Juicy” debut release, more specifically the song “Not Gonna Send U Nudes Chad”, Literal Colby features skits within this project, as an intro and outro for the album. Although I am usually not a big fan of interludes and skits within this album, they fit very well here. It is important to note that the idea of this genre of “slutty 2000’s pop” was a relatively underground genre with a small cult following, and was a genre with primarily low production quality and releases were usually light-hearted with jokes and comedic references throughout them. Although SPMM was released in 2021, a time where this genre is no longer underground, Colby is able to maintain this same feeling that is exerted by the earlier days of the genre.

This album is able to maintain a consistent theme throughout while also experimenting with many different genres. From iconic slutty 2000’s pop music on tracks like “One Then Two’, “Warped Tour”, “Cunt”, and “Jeffrey Dahmer”, to Liam’s (somewhat horrible) take on emo metal on the track “REB”, and even the track “Barbies awn the Barbecue” that features heavy hyperpop influence from artist Sophie. Although not every track is able to get it right, and there are definitely some skips on the album, Colby keeps SPMM interesting by using an array of genres and adding emo influence to them. I personally feel that this album could’ve been a much bigger success if it had been released sometime around the same time that the genre had started to gain popularity, as it is genuinely a great project. My favorites from this album are “I Luv Ur MySpace”, “Barbies awn the Barbecue”, “VoDkA”, “gangBANG”, and One Then Two. SPMM was a great debut album for Liam, so it is a shame much of his later material is mediocre at best.
